The Assembly member for Korletsom Electoral Area in the Lower Manya Krobo constituency of the Eastern Region, Michael Mensah, has compelled the Member of Parliament of the area to raise the issue of military detachment in the rolling out of prepaid meters by the Electricity Company of Ghana in Parliament.
The Krobos had suffered over-billing in their electricity supply since 2014, and the power distributor had resolved to transit their clients in the Krobo District of the Tema region to prepaid meters.
The transition, which took place in June, has brought tension in the area, and many residents have questioned the motive behind the military detachment.
It is against this backdrop that the Assembly member, Mr. Michael Mensah, popularly known as Sheileshe, called the MP to table this concern on the floor of Parliament for the necessary redress.
Threats
In the phone conversation, the Assemblyman asked the MP about what he was doing regarding the military presence, but the MP was reported to has said some people in the constituency had threatened him not to speak on the matter.
The MP therefore instructed Mr. Mensah to direct his attention to the Paramount Chief, Nene Sakite II, as he is the custodian of the Krobo land.
It was gathered that a lot of people were demanding to know where the MP stands on the matter, and that pushed him to speak for the first time in Parliament since he entered the House barely 12 years ago.
