The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is demanding immediate dismissal, investigation and prosecution of the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Acting Chief Executive of the GoldBod, Sammy Gyamfi, following the emergence of a viral video showing him doling out US dollar notes to Evangelist Patricia Oduro, also known as Nana Agradaa.
Addressing a press conference at the NPP headquarters in Asylum Down, Accra, yesterday, Henry Nana Boakye, NPP National Organiser, described the act as a gross violation of multiple laws and a breach of the recently launched Code of Conduct for appointees by President John Dramani Mahama.
According to him, Gyamfi’s actions were not only unethical, but undermined public trust and mocked the very standards of governance the current administration claims to uphold.
Breach
He cited Sections 3(1) and (4) of the Foreign Exchange Act, 2006 (Act 723), which prohibit engaging in foreign exchange transactions without proper licensing from the Bank of Ghana.
“The Bank of Ghana has repeatedly warned that no individual is permitted to receive or make payments in foreign currency without authorization. Sammy Gyamfi, by spraying dollars in public, has clearly broken this law and must be prosecuted accordingly,” he stated.
Contravention
He also referenced the Code of Conduct unveiled by President Mahama just a week earlier, which outlined core values such as integrity, honesty, impartiality, and accountability.
Under Sections 1.2 and 1.3 of the code, appointees are required to manage their personal affairs with scrutiny and uphold the integrity of their offices.
“It is ironic that Sammy Gyamfi, a known critic of government officials in similar situations, now finds himself flagrantly violating the very code of conduct he should uphold,” he said.
He, therefore, urged President Mahama to act swiftly under Section 6 of the Code and remove Gyamfi from his position as acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod).
