The National Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Stephen Ntim, has announced plans to establish an Election Review Committee in January 2025 to conduct a thorough analysis of the party’s performance in the 2024 parliamentary and presidential elections.
He made this announcement when he delivered a message from the national leadership of the NPP on the party’s performance in the 2024 General elections at the party’s headquarters in Asylum Down on Monday, December 23, 2024.
Assurance
Mr. Ntim assured that the Election Review Committee will work with an objective and comprehensive approach. He explained that the Committee’s mandate would include engaging various party stakeholders, as well as the general public, to explore the factors and circumstances that led to the NPP’s loss.
“We have a firm belief that the work of this Election Review Committee will allow our people to voice their concerns, bring forward suggestions on reforms, and address critical issues that are necessary for restructuring our party,” he stressed.
The NPP Chairman emphasised the importance of this review as a vital step towards fortifying the NPP’s future. He indicated that one of the critical aspects that the Election Review Committee will focus on, was the potential need for constitutional amendments within the party.
This, he noted, may include a reevaluation of the internal decision-making processes and the mode of electing key party officials, such as presidential and parliamentary candidates, as well as party executives.
Mr. Ntim further pointed to issues around the timing of delegates’ conferences and challenges the party has faced with these processes over time.
Optimism
Acknowledging the difficulties the party is currently facing, Mr. Ntim did not shy away from expressing his optimism and confidence in the party’s resilience.
“Indeed, this is a difficult time for us as a Party, but we are a resilient people. We must and we will rise again from this defeat,” he declared, reinforcing the party’s determination to recover and regroup for the future.
His rallying cry captured the mood of perseverance within the party: “We are reorganizing ourselves for the battles of tomorrow. Fellow Party Members, this means we cannot give up. We must engage the restructuring process with all the energies we can muster to get the elephant trumpeting again. Kukrudu!!! Kukrudu!!! Kukruuuuduuu!!!”
The NPP chair sent a heartfelt wish for the NPP members and Ghanaians at large: “We wish you a peaceful festive season, and may God bless our homeland Ghana and make the NPP great and strong again.”
