An aspiring parliamentary candidate of the governing New patriotic party (NPP) in the Amenfi East constituency of the Western Region, Dr. Isaac Nana Afriyie, has declared his willingness to work tirelessly to help the party recapture its seat, if he is given the nod.
Speaking in an interview on Kessben TV, he said when he hits the pitch, the current NDC MP, Nicholas Amankwah, would realise he is in for a fight, and would be compelled to hand over power to the NPP in the 2024 parliamentary elections.
To attain that goal, he said, he is bringing into the space ingredients of sterling leadership and experience, and qualities in uniting the party, especially at the constituency level. Dr. Nana Afriyie promised to develop strategies to help mobilise members to win back the NPP seat as well as help break the eight years’ governance cycle.
The NPP parliamentary hopeful lauded the efforts of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Fredrick Krankye, in projecting government in the consituency through rollout of basic development projects.
Dr. Nana Afriyie assured NPP supporters and sympathisers that he would work with the MCE to enhance development in the constituency where the MCE has already done tremendously.
“Even though NPP lost the parliamentary seat, the good works of the MCE is exposing the NDC Member of Parliament who has not done anything in the constituency. With the network that I’ve built, when elected as parliamentary candidate of NPP and ultimately MP, I will use that position to help develop the constituency,” he assured.
Retaining power
He also stressed that the party’s determination to retain power in 2024, and break the eight-year governance cycle, could be realised, if members remained united.
“I believe if we’re united, we shall break the eight. Our success will depend on how we conduct ourselves, especially at the constituency level. The party is not built on self-interest. Let’s eschew it, bury our differences, and bring on board everyone because we need all hands on deck to achieve that agenda,” he stated.
He, therefore, called on party delegates in the constituency and all party sympathisers to rally behind his candidature.
“Delegates should give the nod to me as the MP in the Amenfi East constituency in the upcoming polls in order for me to use the best modules and strategies to help the party achieve momentum in restoring back its seat, and help break the eight-year term that has existed for some time in our democratic history,” Dr. Nana Afriyie appealed.
He disclosed that his reason for planning to contest the NPP parliamentary election is to help champion development in the constituency.
“Although I’m not an MP, because of my links, I have been supporting people from my constituency, and so when I become MP, I will automatically change the face of Amenfi East constituency,” he noted.
