The Presidential Elections Committee of the New Patriotic Party has moved to calm rising tensions within the party by reaffirming its full commitment to a transparent and credible electoral process ahead of the party’s presidential primary.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 and signed by the Chairman of the Committee, Joseph Osei Owusu, the Committee said it had “observed with concern some commentaries circulating across electronic and social media platforms which risk creating misunderstandings among the general public and the Party rank and file.” The Committee described such commentary as potentially harmful to the confidence building process that has guided preparations for the upcoming internal election.
The statement stressed that the Presidential Elections Committee had operated an inclusive process from the outset. According to the Committee, it has “maintained an open, collaborative, and consultative process with all the Presidential Candidates,” explaining that engagements have been held not only with candidates and their representatives but also with other relevant stakeholders committed to protecting the integrity of the party’s electoral procedures.
Clear
Responding to suggestions that the party’s provisional register lacked credibility, the Committee made clear that the register had been provided to the aspirants in advance to ensure a thorough and transparent review. “In line with our long standing commitment to transparency, the Provisional Voters Register has been duly shared with all Candidates,” the statement noted. The Committee explained that this was to enable candidates to “identify potential inaccuracies, and support the Committee in effecting timely corrections.”
The Committee further clarified that the release of a provisional voters list was not unusual but reflects a well established national electoral practice. It stated that such publication “allows individuals whose names may have been inadvertently omitted to raise objections for rectification, and permits the public to draw attention to errors, duplications, or ineligible entries.” It added that the same principle guided the decision to make the Provisional Register available to all aspirants.
Tensions
The statement acknowledged the historical tensions that had arisen in Ghana’s Fourth Republic over electoral albums during internal party elections and said that the Committee was determined to avoid a repetition of such disputes. Working closely with the aspirants, the Committee said it had instituted “a rigorous and transparent album validation and verification process,” adding that it was “regrettable for any individual or group to suggest that the Party’s Album is fictitious or without credibility.”
The Committee assured party members and the wider public that it was committed to delivering a process beyond reproach. It emphasised that it remained “unwavering in its commitment to producing a credible, verifiable, and trustworthy voters register and to ensuring that the upcoming Presidential Primary is conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner.”
The Committee encouraged all party faithful and stakeholders to continue submitting their concerns or observations. “All stakeholders are kindly entreated to send their concerns, contributions and observations to the Secretary, the Presidential Elections Committee, NPP Headquarters, Asylum Down, Accra,” the statement said.
The Committee further expressed gratitude for the continued cooperation of members, describing the support received so far as essential to safeguarding the integrity of the party’s internal democratic processes.
