Nii Boye Laryea, Okaikwei North MCEThe Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly, Nii Boye Laryea, has undertaken a comprehensive inspection of crucial government projects, shedding light on both progress and challenges within the municipality.
The inspection, spanning the Achimota Old Overhead through to Akweteyman and Achimota Pentecost Church, highlighted significant safety concerns along with commendable strides in developmental projects.
Addressing the press during the inspection tour yesterday, the MCE lamented that the removal of crash barriers by scrap dealers posed a serious hazard to motorists navigating these stretches, raising alarms about potential accidents.
He stressed that these barriers are pivotal in preventing potentially fatal accidents, and pledged to deal with perpetrators. “It is lawlessness, and shouldn’t be tolerated,” he stated, urging immediate action to rectify the situation.
Projects
The MCE indicated that the inspected projects, including drainage and road infrastructure, constitute vital components of the New Patriotic Party’s developmental agenda for the municipality. Mr Boye Laryea lauded the contractors’ dedication, and assured the community of timely project completion.
However, amidst the constructive progress, the MCE voiced dismay over reported incidents of opposition National Democratic Congress’ markings on government properties.
“Painting all assembly projects with your NDC colours wouldn’t win you the elections. Such actions are unlawful and unwarranted. If you claim you’ve delivered to the people, why paint roads, electricity poles and bridges with party colours?” he questioned.
On the prevailing vandalism and safety lapses, Mr Boye Laryea cautioned against such activities, and assured strict enforcement of the law against offenders.
“Let us avoid lawless activities in the municipality. I urge everyone to embrace peace and maintain order. Besides, it is imperative for us all to uphold public safety, and preserve government assets,” he said.
He further expressed concerns about the complex landscape of development in the municipality, with tangible strides tempered by pressing challenges.
He said his proactive approach signals a concerted effort to navigate these complexities, leveraging partnerships with stakeholders to achieve tangible progress.
“The municipality is bracing for further development initiatives, and the spotlight remains on addressing safety hazards and preserving public infrastructure. Let us, as a municipality, look towards collaborative efforts underpinned by effective governance and law enforcement. This will help in steering Okaikwei North towards a sustainable and prosperous future,” he stressed.
Concern
The MCE’s stance received backing from local stakeholders, with traditional authorities at Akweteyman Tradional Council expressing concern over the escalating violence within their jurisdiction.
They called for enhanced police presence to curb disturbances, and maintain peace.
For his part, the site engineer of Jasoung Construction Limited, Mr. Opuni Amoah, overseeing a drainage project near the Achimota School stretch, detailed operational challenges due to encroachment.
He commended the MCE’s intervention for facilitating the project’s progress, highlighting their commitment to meeting project timelines.
