Ken Agyapong

Ghana is currently polarized between the two major political parties – the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC). This phenomenon has partly contributed to the slow development of the nation.
The polarisation of the country has put the Black Star of Africa in the exact state of what Burning Spear, the renowned reggae musician, described as “One step forward, two steps backwards” in one of his major hit songs.
The extent to which the leading members of these two politicical parties have put their parochial interest over the nation’s is not only shameful, but also unpatriotic. While members of government discontinue national projects initiated by their political opponents, their fanatical supporters assume ownership of public resources immediately their parties win elections. This attitude causes the nation one major harm – waste and desipation of national resources.
Shame
As shameful as it may sound, the Ministers of Justice and Attorney Generals of these two politicical parties have always been blind to the corrupt deals of their own government appointees. Without any sense of shame, they file nollie prosequis to discontinue the trials of their party members immediately they assume power. As if that is not enough, they insult the intelligence of the tax payers anytime the media expose the corrupt acts of their party members by issuing lame directives, calling for such to be investigated, the outcome of which is always established before the directive itself — “there was no wrong doing.”
This unpatriotic approach to national issues has encouraged the fanatical supporters of these two major political parties to engage in acts of lawlessness with impunity anytime their parties are in power. They commit crimes in the full glare of the police and cameras because they have the assurance that they will not be prosecuted by their own. Typical example is what happened during the re-run of the 19 polling stations in the Ablekuma North Constituency on 19th July 2025, where thugs believed to be members of the ruling NDC, caused physical harm to two NPP leading members.
Indiscipline
Until these irresponsible acts of indicipline and unpatriotism are nipped in the bud, the Ghanaian tax payers will be paying taxes into national sacks with holes that will always leak into the pockets of these politicians. Interestingly, however, the panacea to this national problem still lies with the NDC and the NPP, the benefactors of the situation.
Thankfully, however, one man from the camp of the NPP seems to have a nature that best positions him as the right person to tactically deal with this unfortunate phenomenon that has lingered and caused havoc to the nation for over three decades. This man in question is Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the former Member of Parliament for Assin Central in the Central Region.
By character and deeds, the former Assin Central lawmaker is the kind of leader who can effortlessly deal with this protracted problem which has been a bane to the nation for the past thirty year. He shows the traits of an amphibian who knows when to be a party person and when to be a statesman.
As a patriot, selfless business mogul and a philanthropist, Hon. Agyapong has been there for his party and the nation whenever they needed him most. Typical of a patriot, Hon. Agyapong was among the first citizens who donated huge sums of moneys and Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to hospitals when the coronavirus pandemic brokeout in the country. He is also currently funding the construction of an 80-bed cardiothoracic centre at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra. These gestures are traits of a person who means well for the nation.
Deeds
Beyond his philanthropic and patriotic deeds, Hon. Agyapong’s commitment to his party has won him the heart of the grassroot members who are normally used by self-centered politicians to hatch their parochial political schemes against the state. Leveraging his Ghana first nature and the love and respect he commands from his party grassroot members, Hon. Agyapong is in the best stead to stop the culture of impunity that exists among the sub-structure base of his party and others as the commander-in-chief of the Ghana Armed Forces.
It is also obvious that his Ghana first attitude will not allow him to discontinue inherited government projects. Do we need anybody to tell Ghanaians that Hon. Agyapong, who is on record to have sharply, but constructively criticised his party’s decisions and members on several times and occasions, will not hesitate to direct the prosecution of his own appointees when the need be?
Since every padlock have their own unique keys so do unique problems require unique leaders with special solutions. If the description of Ken as presented in this article is indeed true, then he is the solution to the route cause of the country’s problems.
