The New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Pru West, Stephen Pambiin Jalulah, has commended the Akufo-Addo government for rolling out new initiatives and reforms in its second term to enhance further the quality of life of Ghanaians and support domestic entrepreneurs and businesses.
Speaking with the Daily Statesman yesterday, he said even though the NPP government in its first term introduced some life-changing policies, introducing more is an indication that the NPP is a party that is concerned about the wellbeing of the citizenry.
New policies
He mentioned that new initiatives like the National Equipment Leasing Policy, Transport Sector Recapitalisation Project and National Rental Assistance Scheme will go a long way to deepen access to public services.
“I am particularly happy with the Transport Sector Recapitalisation Project because it will help us get rid of the huge number of aged and un-roadworthy commercial vehicles on our roads, which in one way or the other contribute to the spate of road accidents on our roads,” he said.
With regard to the National Rental Assistance Scheme, Mr Jalulah said the issue of rent had always been a problem in the country, especially for people who have no sustainable income and still need to pay rent in advance of two years before they can get a room.
“Undoubtedly, people will have issues with the payment of their rent as a result of the pandemic and therefore having the government intervene is a step in the right direction,” he said.
“This is what we call a listening government. Right from last year, majority of Ghanaians have enjoyed free water and electricity. Just when all of these freebies were expected to end in December last year, President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo again announced the extension of the free provision of water and electricity for lifeline customers for three more months,” Mr Jalulah noted.

The Pru West legislator admitted that although things might not be too easy for Ghanaians, as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, the government, through pragmatic and well-thought-out policies, will get the citizenry out of the woods.
“I believe in the leadership of President Akufo-Addo and, trust me, the progress made in the economy before the pandemic struck will be realised again,” he assured.
He added that it was not for nothing when President Akufo-Addo reminded Ghanaians, during the presentation of the State of the Nation Address few days ago, that the NPP are good managers of the economy.
Delivering the State of the Nation on Tuesday, March 9, President Akufo-Addo said despite the harsh impact of Covid-19 on the economy, his government found the resources to protect all public sector workers.
“The President was not boasting at all. It is a fact that, comparably, the NPP is better than the NDC in terms of governance. If not for President Akufo-Addo’s vision, the effects of the pandemic would have been worse,” he said.
