President Akufo-Addo with the family of former President Rawlings
The family of former President Jerry John Rawlings yesterday called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House to formally announce the passing away of the former President’s mother, Victoria Agbotui.
Led by Dan Abodakpi, a former minister, the delegation from the Anlo state said it was proper to announce to the President the death of Madam Agbotui.
Mr Abodakpi said the late Madam Agbotui was not just the mother of former President Rawlings, but an important royal of the Anlo state.
Funeral arrangements
“Mr President, as we indicated to you when you called on your brother, President Jerry John Rawlings, we did say that the family has decided that we will have the funeral and the burial one day only, October 24,” he said
He added that with the President giving approval, there will be a filing past of the body at the forecourt of the State House on October 24, followed by the non-denominational church service.

“So, Your Excellency, we are here to formally announce the passing of Madam Victoria Agbotui, the mother of President Rawlings,” he said.
He commended the President for receiving them, despite his busy schedules as well as the support given them towards the funeral.
“On behalf of the chiefs of Anlo, on behalf of the Agbotui and allied families and on behalf of President Jerry John Rawlings, we are most appreciative to His Excellency for all that you have done for us so far,” he said.
President Akufo-Addo
After welcoming the delegation, President Akufo-Addo said though the occasion was a sad one, it was appropriate that they formally announce the demise of Madam Agbotui to him.
He then expressed his condolence to the family, and assured them that he would be at the service on Saturday morning, but will unfortunately miss the rest of the service due to his schedule.
