The funeral rites of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings has been postponed, according to a release signed by Kobina Andoh Amoakwa, of the Communications Directorate of the former late President.
The funeral rites were originally scheduled for Wednesday, December 23, 2020.
However, the release from the office of the late President said, “The office of the former President Jerry John Rawlings informs the general public that his funeral will no longer take place on Wednesday, December 23, 2020″
It added that a new date would be communicated to the public in due course.
“The inconvenience to all who had made prior arrangements for the funeral ceremony is deeply regretted,” it concluded.
Earlier date
James Victor Gbeho, Head of Funeral Planning Committee, in a press release had earlier disclosed that the family, in consultation with government, had agreed on December 23, for the funeral.
The funeral rites were supposed to come off at the Independence Square in Accra.
“The family is working in conjunction with government on the finer details of the funeral ceremony and will communicate the arrangements in due course,” he had stated.
