First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo has called on colleague African First Ladies to put in place measures to execute a comprehensive strategy that will impact on the citizenry.
Mrs Akufo- Addo made the call at the launch of the “Ngana Zenza Foundation for Community Development” of the First Lady of Angola, Ana Afonso Dias Lourenço.
She expressed her support for the work of the First Lady of Angola, stressing “As First Ladies, we do all we can to meet the needs of our citizens and derive enormous satisfaction from being there for our citizens, despite the many challenges we face in raising funds and resources and ensuring timely delivery of our projects”.
On her side, the First Lady of Angola, Ana Afonso Dias Lourenco, expressed gratitude to Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo for her continuous support and encouragement.
She reiterated the total commitment of “Ngana Zenza Foundation for Community Development” to the welfare of the people of Angola.
In January, 2017, Mrs Akufo-Addo, out of an opportunity to make a difference in Ghana, established “The Rebecca Foundation” to complement the efforts of government by undertaking supporting and promoting initiatives that improve the economic status of women.
The Foundation is also enhancing literacy and learning skills in children and improving environmental health and sanitation by greening public spaces, with a vision of delivering excellence as a team and impacting positively on the lives of Ghanaians. It is also identifying and implementing initiatives that support government efforts to improve the lives of Ghanaians, especially women and children.
Ngana Zenza Foundation
Present at the launch were the President of Angola, João Lourenço, Vice-President Bornito de Sousa, President of the National Assembly, Fernando Piedade dos Santos and the First Lady of Cape Verde, Deborah Katiza Carvalho .
The Ngana Zenza Foundation, which is an expression in Kimbundu that means Lady Isabel, in honour of Ana Dias Lourenço’s mother, was established in 2020.
The objective of the Foundation is to promote community development with a view to improving the living conditions and economic empowerment of populations, especially, in rural areas.
Its main target is the most vulnerable groups, especially young girls, the elderly, children and people with disabilities.
