Dr. Frank Bannor, a development economist and Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Economic Research and Public Policy (IERPP), has issued a blunt and uncompromising critique of Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, CEO of the Ghana Gold Board (GOLDBOD) over comments perceived as attempts to justify the NDC’s governance shortcomings.
In a statement shared on Facebook on Monday, December 29, 2025, Dr. Bannor rejected any narrative that seeks to excuse current governance challenges by referencing the record of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He argued that the NDC willingly sought power on the strength of strong campaign rhetoric and therefore must bear full responsibility for its performance.
“No one held a gun to your head!” Dr. Bannor declared, underscoring his view that the NDC freely presented itself as a superior alternative to the previous administration.
He recalled the tone and content of the party’s campaign messaging, stating, “You and your assigns told Ghanaians the NPP was evil and that your NDC will give Ghanaians an efficient, scandal-free governance!” According to him, such categorical assurances removed any moral basis for post-election excuses.
Dr. Bannor was particularly critical of what he described as efforts to deflect blame or lower expectations through comparison. “You therefore don’t have the moral right to compare your incompetence to anything!” he said, describing such arguments as inconsistent with the promises made to voters.
The IERPP Senior Research Fellow concluded his remarks with a stinging admonition directed personally at Mr. Gyamfi, adding, “The least we expect from you is to shut up!”
