Residents in Sekondi-Takoradi and its environs are not impressed with the performance of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, and have consequently called on the respective Assemblies to review their contracts with the waste management company.
They insist it would be proper if a “performance clause” is included in the contract term to bind Zoomlion to evacuate spillage as well.
Others are, however, suggesting abrogation of the contract, saying they are not happy with the company’s performance.
Complaints
Speaking to the Daily Statesman, the angry residents accused waste management company of undue delay in lifting overflowing containers as well as failure to evacuate the spillages.
Some of them complained that their dustbins had not been emptied for the past two weeks.
“This unpleasant scene poses health hazards, and as such the assemblies need to take a second look at their contract with Zoomlion. We are in fear because Secondi-Takoradi will be in total mess with the onset of the rains if Zoomlion continues to be relied on for waste collection…,” they said.
An assembly member in the metropolis, Musa Adamu, of Sofo Zongo Electoral Area in the Effia Kwesimintim Municipality, shared similar sentiments. According to him, the Municipal Assembly spends a chunk of its resources evacuating waste spillage which should normally be done by Zoomlion
“There is nothing wrong in abrogating this contract when the company fails to discharge its duties as expected of it to ensure a clean environment,” he said.
