Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia is expected at Ntotroso later this year to grace the Apomasu festival of the chiefs and people of the Ntotroso Traditional Area.
The focus of this year’s celebration of the festival, according to the Omanhene of Ntotroso, Barima Twereko Ampem III, is the establishment of a senior high school in the town.
The theme for the festival is “Free Senior High and Technical Education: Bidging the gap between the rich and the poor to provide manpower education and economic development – the role of traditional authorities.”
The Omanhene of the area, speaking at the launch, underscored the need for the establishment of a senior high school in the town to serve the ever-increasing population of the area. He said the introduction of the Free SHS policy by government had increased enrolment astronomically thereby putting some pressure on the existing school.
He said the construction of the proposed senior high school at Ntotroso would go a long way to ease the pressure on some of the existing schools while providing learning opportunities for a lot more students.
According to him, the proposed senior high school will feed the Nursing Training College in the town, which was also put up by the people of the area with the support of Newmont Ahafo Development Foundation.
He said previous celebrations of the festival had resulted in the construction of the Nursing Training College, police station and information centre, among others.
Barima Twereko Ampem III was positive that they would be able to construct the SHS, considering the readiness and preparedness of the people, and hoped that the project would be completed on schedule when construction works start.
Also expected at the festival are the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, or his representative, the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Ministers of State, Members of Parliament and several other dignitaries.
