Economist and a Senior Fellow at the Institute of Economic Research and Public Policy (IERPP), Dr. Kwasi Nyame-Baafi, has criticized Sammy Gyamfi for spending Dollars in public whilst urging Ghanaians to stop using the US currency in transactions.
In a series of posts on Facebook, Dr. Nyame-Baafi chastised the CEO of GoldBod over his double standards.
“You urge Ghanaians to dump their dollars for the Ghana cedi—but as the one leading the charge at GoldBod, you turn around and spend Dollars instead of Cedis” he emphasized.
“While ordinary Ghanaians are being urged to dump the dollar for the Cedi, it’s becoming clear that some of those leading the charge may be quietly stockpiling USD behind the scenes. It almost feels like they’ve lost confidence in the Cedi themselves” he wrote.
“Do you truly have confidence in the long-term stability of the Cedi? Or are you quietly stockpiling dollars while urging others to let go of theirs?” Dr. Nyame-Baafi asked.
This, he described as very serious and deeply worrying as well as unfortunate for Ghana’s economy.
“Let’s stay alert. The long-term stability of the Cedi demands truth and consistency—not double standards” he advised.
Dr. Nyame-Baafi further called on President John Mahama to hold Sammy Gyamfi accountable if he is truly committed to fighting corruption and enforcing ethical conduct within his administration.
