A 41-year-old man, Asiedu Christian, was on Sunday afternoon electrocuted at Hwibaa, in the Ahafo Ano South West District of the Ashanti, while loading bagged cocoa beans onto a heavy load truck.
According to eyewitnesses, the late Asiedu Christian was killed instantly after coming into contact with a naked electric wire.
They said the deceased was loading cocoa beans on the long vehicle, when he accidentally came into contact with the wire which was laid on electric poles on top of the truck.
“Mr Asiedu, after loading heaps of cocoa beans onto the truck, climbed on top of the load to properly arrange the sacks. The vehicle was parked right under the electrical cable when they began loading the beans, and at a point it got closer to the electrical cable. The deceased sadly came into direct contact with the wire when he tried to stretch up during the loading process,” some eyewitnesses narrated.
Wrongful parking
They however complained that most of the long vehicle drivers fail to park properly whenever they come for load, adding “those who load the cocoa beans also do not check for their safety but are more concerned with the distance from the load to the vehicles”.
The eyewitnesses also revealed that the deceased was climbing the bags cocoa beans, which was few metres away from the electrical cable, to arrange them well.
They added that if diligent checks were done at where the vehicle was parked first, the unfortunate incident could have been averted. The deceased was rushed to the Wioso Government Hospital where doctors confirmed he was dead.
