480-bed capacity boys’ dormitory for Fiaseman SHS

The Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, has commissioned a newly built 480- bed capacity boys’ dormitory for Fiaseman Senior High School in the Tarkwa-Nsuem Municipality.

The GHC2.7million double block GETFUND project will accommodate not less than 600 students to ease congestion at the current boys’ dormitory as well as increase enrollment.

The facility is made up of 20 double-seater toilets, 32 showering cubicles, two washing bays, two ironing halls and a mechanised borehole. Construction works on the project, was executed by Kinspok Group of Companies started in 2019.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Mr Darko-Mensah said the facility was one of the first projects he awarded on contract as regional minister.

“Fiaseman Senior High School can also boast of a 3, 000 capacity dining hall, a 20- seater Water Closet and an ongoing 12-unit classroom block under the NPP government. All these facilities were acquired through the instrumentality of George Mireku Duker, the Tarkwa-Nsuem MP and deputy Lands and Natural Resources Minister,” he noted.

The Regional Minister further reiterated government’s commitment to undertaking infrastructural projects across the length and breadth of the country in spite of current global financial crisis.

He said the Akufo-Addo administration believes in “The Ghana Project” and will continue constructing schools, roads and other infrastructure to better the lives of Ghanaians.

“Government will continue investing in secondary education since education opens up opportunities for progress. It is against this backdrop that he has urged Ghanaians to continue supporting NPP to do more, stressing that “the NPP has their interest and wellbeing at heart,” he emphasised.

He assured citizens that government will leave no stone unturned in addressing infrastructural deficit in all Senior High Schools besides funding education.

Mr Darko-Mensah disclosed that the Free SHS policy had increased the number of children attending secondary school in Western Region from 13, 000 to 63,000, which is 68% increase.

The Tarkwa-Nsuem MP, George Mireku Duker affirmed that government will not cancel the Free SHS Programme to the detriment of the ordinary Ghanaian.

“The NPP has the future of Ghanaian youth at heart and will ensure that they are adequately trained at school. I would also remind Ghanaians that NPP has a contractual agreement with them and will work hard to deliver,” he reiterated.

The headmaster of Fiaseman SHS, John Kofi Sagoe, commended government and the Member of Parliament for giving the school a facelift. He, however, lamented the incident of encroachment on the land by private developers, absence of teachers’ bungalow and a brand new school bus.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Benjamin Kesse, also advised critics to desist from going on social media to downplay infrastructural development at the school.
