The Member of Parliament for Nsawam Adoagyiri constituency, who doubles as a Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has confidently predicted a 70% victory for Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming presidential primary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Addressing the media during the just-ended second 2023 Akwasiadae Festival at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, he noted that despite the diverse opinions of some political analysts, Dr Bawumia will have an upper hand over the other contestants.
The Majority Chief Whip was quick to explain that a religious tolerant leader like Dr Bawumia happens to be a unique individual fit for every position, and the presidency is not an exception.
According to him, “this is the first time we are seeing a Muslim who is a leader and is rallying support from even the Christian community, the man is building mosques, churches, reaching out to the Clergy and he is dining, talking and thinking together with the Clergy, for me, I have not seen anything like that, such religious tolerance is something unique on the continent and for me, we must value what we have and celebrate it.”
“I tell you that he will win not less than 70%, I am Chief Whip, I can feel it, I can feel the entire spirit of the party is behind this man and anybody who will go against this man is like sweeping a moving current, he is going to win and there is nothing you can do about it, it’s going to be a massive win and the minimum will be a 70%,” Mr Annoh-Dompreh said.
Caution
The Majority Chief Whip, therefore, cautioned other aspirants not to underrate the overwhelming support of the Vice-President.
“That is why I am not with the NDC. From my childhood, this party is a party that entertains dissenting reasoning, nobody is intimidated nobody can intimidate Members of Parliament,” he said.
“Don’t also underrate the overwhelming support this man has and attribute it to intimidation, there is no intimidation, those who claim that they are being intimidated should come out and prove it. Other MPs are supporting other candidates so is not 100% support, for the record, we don’t have any candidates here, I can give you several names but they are free to join them,” he added.
Mr Annoh-Dompreh believes Dr. Bawumia becoming the flagbearer will aid the NPP to “Break the 8”, and therefore pleaded with delegates in all the 16 regions to choose him.
