The Member of Parliament for Bantama and Minister of Works and Housing, Francis Asenso-Boaky, has extended GHC5,000 financial support to a budding female poultry farmer in his constituency.
The young lady, Elizabeth Boakye, who hitherto worked as a teacher in a private school in Kumasi, is happy that she now has an amount of money that can help her expand her poultry farm for real farming business.
According to her, the monthly income she earned as a private school teacher could not enable her to cater well to her children, hence, her venturing into the poultry farm business on a small scale.
The former teacher is very hopeful that pushing the money received from her MP into her agric business, would help her maximise profit and be able to better cater for her wards and herself.
She expressed her utmost gratitude to Francis Asenso-Boakye for the kindest gesture.
”I am dumbfounded…I called Chief (MP) late in the night and appealed to him for financial support to expand a small poultry farm I had started, and shockingly he asked me to come to his office the following day, I came, and he gave me the exact amount I needed,” she narrated.
“I am so happy. May God bless him and give him a long life. Now, I know I can do better poultry business and be able to cater for my children and myself,” Elizabeth added.
Interest
Mr Asenso-Boakye, in his response, disclosed that he was moved by the fact that a woman was expressing interest in agribusiness, at a time when the Akufo-Addo government is making efforts to attract more youth to the agriculture sector.
He advised Ms. Boakye to use the money for the purpose which it was given for and work hard to expand her business with the money received so he would be able to employ some other youth in the business in the days ahead.
The Bantama MP further indicated that such support has been given to the youth in the constituency to boost their businesses.
”Some youth in shoe making, hairdressing, fashion design and other private businesses have benefitted similar support from my office. I will continue to support my people as long as I get the means,” he Asenso-Boakye explained.
