The second batch of head porters, popularly known as “Kayeyei”, who have undergone training under the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) Skills Empowerment Programme, will pass out today.
The graduation ceremony is scheduled to take place at their hostel, near the Madina Social Centre.
The Chief Executive Officer of NEIP, Mr. Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, who announced this in an interview, emphasised the project’s ongoing commitment to making life more dignifying and comfortable for beneficiaries to contribute significantly to the growth of their families and Ghana as a whole.
The beneficiaries were trained in the following skill areas: soaps & detergents making, baking, pedicure & manicure, beading, decor and make up artistry.
First cohort/ initiative
In June, the first batch of over 600 head porters graduated from the programme. This initiative, spearheaded by Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia, aims to uplift 5,000 female head porters by providing them with vital skills, and creating pathways to better employment opportunities.
Over the course of month of June, the first cohort of trainees received comprehensive training in various practical skills. The curriculum included soap and detergent making, baking, pedicure and manicure, bedding, decor, and makeup artistry. The training took place at the Madina and Ashaiman campuses.
In addition to these technical skills, the participants were also educated in financial management and business development. To support their entrepreneurial ventures, each graduate received starter packs and microgrants.
They were also provided with a stipend of GHC1,000, split into two payments of GHC500 each, as promised by the NEIP.
