With less than three months to go into the 2020 general elections, Kwahuhene Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II has asked parliamentary candidates (PCs) in the Kwahu enclave to make development of the area their primary focus, if elected as parliamentarians.
“You’re going to represent us in Parliament, and I expect nothing but unflinching loyalty to the issues that affect our people. I need roads, drinking water and jobs for my people,” he stated.
Visit
Daasebre was speaking to the governing New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary candidates in the area during a courtesy call on him at his palace at Kwahu Abene.
The visit, led by the party’s regional secretary, Jeff Konadu Addo, was to introduce the candidates to the respected chief ahead of the general elections.
The Kwahuhene urged the candidates not to take the goodwill of the people they seek to serve for granted, when elected.
The aspirants include Bryan Acheampong, Member of Parliament and PC for Abetifi; Davis Opoku Ansah, parliamentary candidate for Mpraeso; and Joseph Frimpong, parliamentary candidate for Nkawkaw.
The Kwahuhene also admonished the aspirants to always ensure unity among themselves and collectively pursue the development and policies that would positively impact the lives of their constituents.
The delegation also included Municipal and District Chief Executives and party constituency executives from the three constituencies in the area.
Before the visit to Abene, the delegation had paid courtesy calls on other chiefs in the area to introduce themselves.
Easy business
In a related development the PC for Mpraeso, Davis Ansah Opoku, aka OPK, has urged market women to brace themselves for more support from the government, as it plans to use the Ghana Card number as Tax Identification Number.
Mr Opoku made the call during the sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a modern market for the people of Asakraka, in the Kwahu South District.
He said, “I receive report each day about the difficulties in getting your TIN, but I have good news for you. From 2021 and beyond, as part of Government’s digitization efforts, your Ghana Card Number will double as your Tax Identification.”
“This will mean that you can easily open a bank account, access MASLOC loans and even the recent COVID-19 business support programme,” he added.
Achievement
Touching on the achievements of President Nana Akufo Addo, OPK reminded the gathering of the difficulties they had in paying the fees of their wards who got admitted to Senior High Schools (SHS) before the introduction of the Free SHS programme, which has relieved them of that burden.
“Hitherto, our mothers would sell their precious properties to finance our secondary education. Today, through the visionary leadership of President Akufo-Addo, we are not paying anything under the Free Senior School Education programme,” he said.
Chief’s campaign
The chief of Kwahu Asakraka and Apedwahene of Kwahu Traditional Area, who doubles as a member of the Council of State, Nana Mireku Nyame Nyampong III, applauded President Akufo-Addo for his sterling leadership of service to the people of Asakraka and Ghanaians in general.
He used the occasion to call on his subjects to vote for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo and Davis Ansah Opoku to continue with the implementation of the development plan of the government.
The market, established some 70 years ago and currently in a deplorable state, will have ultra-modern stalls when completed.
