An aspiring National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and a former General Secretary of the party, John Boadu
Mr. John Boadu, NPP National Chairman hopeful and former General Secretary of the party, has called on all members to consolidate the party, and operate at “full throttle” ahead of the 2028 elections, following the successful election of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the 2028 flagbearer.
In an exclusive chat with the Daily Statesman, Mr Boadu said, “with the flagbearer now elected, it is time for the entire party to tidy up, consolidate, and operate at full throttle. Our focus must be on unity, organisation and preparing for victory in 2028.”
He emphasised the need for a coordinated effort across all party structures, noting, “Every NPP executive, regional coordinator and grassroots member has a role to play in fortifying our operations. From constituency offices to local branches, all structures must be functional and aligned. We need strategies that engage citizens meaningfully and communicate our development agenda clearly.”
The NPP Chairman hopeful emphasised the importance of grassroots engagement, stressing that the party must prioritise mobilising youth and women, and ensure that its programme reached communities across the country. He noted that this approach was essential for building confidence and trust among Ghanaians as the nation approached the 2028 elections.
Unity
On the issue of party unity, he stated that it was time to set aside internal differences, rally behind the flagbearer, and demonstrate that the NPP was prepared, organised, and committed to delivering results for all Ghanaians.
He also spoke about the party’s campaign strategy, stating, “Intensive planning, training of local executives, and enhanced digital outreach will form the backbone of our campaign. Every action we take now is to ensure that the NPP enters 2028 as a disciplined and united force capable of securing broad voter support and winning power from the reckless NDC administration”.
Mr. Boadu added that “this is our moment to tidy up, strengthen our foundations, and move forward with full focus and energy. The NPP is ready to engage, deliver, and win in 2028 under the leadership of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.”
Restructuring
Meanwhile, the presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, during the party’s post-election thanksgiving service held at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) Auditorium, announced that the party had begun a major internal restructuring process, including plans to establish a new, strengthened policy unit, as part of a broader strategy to rebuild the party and reposition it for the 2028 general election.
Dr Bawumia said the party would move quickly to reorganise its policy structures, including the creation of a dedicated policy unit to refine, coordinate, and market the NPP’s alternative policy proposals to Ghanaians ahead of the 2028 elections.
He said the policy restructuring would run alongside a broader organisational reorganisation of party structures at national, regional, constituency and grassroots levels to build a stronger and more motivated campaign machinery.
“Thank you tour”
He stated that the party would also embark on a nationwide “thank you tour” in the coming weeks to acknowledge the conduct, discipline and commitment of party members during the internal election period, while using the opportunity to reconnect with the grass roots and rebuild internal cohesion.
Dr Bawumia acknowledged that the internal elections, though peaceful, had created tensions, and strained relationships within the party, noting that political contests often leave emotional and organisational scars.
“On this day, as we celebrate and give thanks together, I want to ask all of us, from the bottom of my heart, that we forgive one another for some of the unpalatable things we may have said during the campaign,” he said.
He urged party members to move beyond factionalism, personal grudges, and internal suspicions.
Healing
He stressed that healing within the party would not come through silence but through honest engagement, accountability, and a shared commitment to common values and goals.
The former Vice-President said the road to 2028 would require discipline, sacrifice, humility, and hard work, warning that electoral victory would not be automatic but must be earned “constituency by constituency and household by household.”
He emphasised that reconciliation remained crucial as the NPP prepared for the next political cycle. He appealed to party faithful to put aside hurt caused by heated campaign exchanges.
He indicated that the party would swiftly reorganise its structures and fine-tune its alternative policy proposals as it prepared for the next general election.
“Victory in 2028 will not be gifted to us. It must be earned, constituency by constituency, household by household, with humility and purpose,” Dr. Bawumia further indicated.
