The Director of International Affairs for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Kyeretwie-Amponsah, popularly known as “Stonash,” has declared that the party’s electoral symbol, the elephant, remains its strongest asset as it positions itself for victory in the 2028 general elections.
He made the comments at the second edition of the Law Students’ Network (LSN) 2026 Leadership and Law Series held on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at the ISSER Conference Centre, University of Ghana, Legon. It was held under the theme, “Beyond the Classroom: Winning in Law and Politics”.
Mr. Kyeretwie-Amponsah expressed confidence in the NPP’s future prospects, insisting that the party is reorganising strategically to “save Ghana” and return to power.
“The elephant is our winning symbol. We shall win to save Ghana,” he stated, adding that the party remains focused on reclaiming power in the next election cycle. He conveyed greetings on behalf of the party’s leadership, referencing the national chairman and other executives.
Mr. Kyeretwie-Amponsah also announced ongoing internal reforms within the NPP, including a nationwide registration exercise intended to streamline membership data and strengthen the party’s organisational base.
“If you call yourself an NPP member, you must ensure you are captured in our records,” he said, noting that membership cards are being issued in both digital and printed formats to improve efficiency and identification.
He further urged party members to actively support the party financially through the payment of dues, describing it as both a constitutional requirement and a duty of “members in good standing.”
According to him, sustained funding remains critical to supporting party activities and preparations ahead of future elections.
Touching on internal party processes, he disclosed that the NPP is preparing to roll out a full-scale internal elections programme, beginning from the polling station level through to constituency, regional, external branches, and national executive elections.
He expressed optimism that all internal elections would be concluded by the end of the year, paving the way for a more consolidated structure ahead of the 2028 elections.
“We want to ensure that by the end of December, all internal elections are completed so that we enter 2028 fully prepared,” he said.
Mr. Kyeretwie-Amponsah also encouraged members, particularly the youth, to actively engage in party structures at all levels, stressing that leadership opportunities exist at every stage of the party’s hierarchy.
He referenced the party’s ideological education efforts, pointing members to the Danquah Institute-linked Patriotic Institute platform as a resource for understanding the NPP’s centre-right ideological tradition and political philosophy.
On communication, he called on party members to take a more active role in shaping public discourse, urging them to promote the achievements of the party while also critiquing the current administration.
“We are all communicators of the party. Let us talk about our successes, and also highlight the lapses and inadequacies of the current government so Ghanaians can appreciate the difference,” he added.
He further reaffirmed confidence in the NPP’s leadership and flagbearer, describing the party’s 2028 prospects as strong. He called on members to remain united and committed to the party’s mobilisation efforts.
