Dr. Anane Agyei, Executive Director of the Busia Institute for Rural and Democratic Development (BIRDD), has thrown his support behind Gordon Asare-Bediako for the position of National Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), describing him as one of the most competent hands within the party’s communication structure.
Dr. Agyei made the remarks during internal party consultations and engagements with journalists on the ongoing contest for the key communications role. He stressed that Mr. Asare-Bediako possesses the experience and strategic competence required to strengthen the party’s messaging ahead of future political activities.
Grounded
He noted that Ghana’s increasingly competitive political environment demands communication leadership that is grounded in intellectual depth, media experience, discipline and strategic clarity.
According to him, Gordon Asare-Bediako fits that profile, adding that his background in journalism, teaching, branding and marketing places him in a strong position to coordinate the party’s communication efforts effectively.
“Gordon is knowledgeable, courageous and powerfully insightful. He understands the intricacies of political communication and possesses the strategic depth, discipline and clarity required to succeed as a General in the communication army of a modern political party. He is solid and checks the boxes convincingly,” Dr. Agyei stated.
Directional
Dr. Agyei further emphasised that modern political communication goes beyond public speaking or media appearances, noting that it requires individuals who understand the media landscape as well as the ideological and organisational direction of a political party.
He drew a distinction between a spokesperson and a communications director, insisting that the role under contest requires strategic leadership rather than routine messaging duties.
“The party needs a Communications Director, not just a Spokesperson. There is a clear distinction,” he stated.
He added that the National Communications Director position remains one of the most strategic roles within the party’s national structure, and therefore requires someone capable of combining political tact with communication professionalism.
