The Chief Executive Officer of the Micro-finance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Stephen Amoah, has debunked allegations circulating on some social and traditional media platforms that he has ‘stolen’ GHC28.8miilion from the organisation.
According to Mr Amoah, while he does not have such amount of money as an individual, the allegation is nothing short of a palpable falsehood to denigrate his hard-earned reputation. He added that the propaganda material thrown on social media space lacks credibility. He has thus called on Ghanaians to disregard it.
Other allegations
Speaking at a press conference, yesterday, at the MASLOC head office in Accra, the MASLOC CEO also used the opportunity to debunk other allegations levelled against him by members of the NDC and flagbearer of the opposition party John Mahama.
The NDC flagbearer, John Mahama, accused the Akufo-Addo government of distributing Isuzu busses procured under his regime to NPP chairmen.
However, according to Mr Amoah, the prices of the buses, which were rejected by the GPRTU due to the high cost of GHC705, 550.00, above the market average price, were, upon recommendation by the national executives of GPRTU to the President, reduced by 53.5 per cent to GHC328, 000.00.
He stated that the government, on July 2019, at the forecourt of Parliament House officially handed over 83 of the buses to the GPRTU management.
“The names and numbers, including photographs of GPRTU beneficiaries, are in our records. Fifteen of the busses were already sold to individuals prior to the reduction to reduce the risk of incurring more losses… Two busses were given to MASLOC and NUGS respectively,” he clarified.
Mr Amoah also debunked allegations that he distributed MASLOC funds to NPP supporters at the Jubilee Park in his constituency.
“Jubilee Park is not in Nhyiaeso but Akwatia Line in Subin constituency,” he said.
He explained: “On 4th October 2019, the Centre distributed cash of GHC1, 000 to each of the 1,000 beneficiaries drawn from the Kumasi Central Market.”
“The disbursement at the Kumasi Central Market is no exception to the practice that has been in place since the inception of the Centre,” he explained.
He further debunked claims that the Centre procured the services of an audit firm without going through appropriate procurement processes, saying the audit firm was appointed by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
“It all started in August 2017, when the NDC propaganda machinery alleged that MASLOC under my leadership had imported 1,800 second-hand cars. I must state that the Centre had at the time not imported any such cars,” he said.
Evil NDC agenda
Sticker, as the MASLOC CEO is affectionately called, said “it is astonishing that the NDC leadership and its communicators still believe in politics of primitive days of communist inferior tactics, propaganda, lies, deception, tricks and intrigues, manoeuvring and machinations in the 21st century.”
According to him, in an era where “other African countries are endeavouring to redeem themselves from repetitive economic breakdowns and global ridicule, my brothers from the NDC are still impervious and insensitive to the present and future plight of the Ghanaian child.”
