The Eastern Regional Coordinating Council (ERCC), yesterday opened a book of condolence in honour of late President Jerry John Rawlings, whose death occurred last Thursday, November 12, 2020.
Speaking at a short ceremony before the book was opened, the Eastern Regional Minister, Eric Kwakye Darfour, said the late former President’s contribution to the development of Ghana’s 4th republican dispensation cannot be overlooked.
He added that Mr Rawlings continued to contribute to the development of the country even after exiting office in 2001.
Mr Darfour indicated that the late President has left a deep void in the political space of the country.
Signing
Signing the book of condolence, the Regional Minister, who doubles as the Member of Parliament for Nkawkaw wrote: “You have paid your dues. We shall continue to remember you. Fare thee well.”
The Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Samuel Nuertey Ayertey, also wrote: “The world is a state in which we are mere players. You have really played your part. May your soul rest in perfect peace.”
Others who signed the book of condolence were the Regional Coordinating Director; the President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs and his entourage; Daasebre Oti Boateng; the paramount chief of New Juaben Traditional Area, the clergy, the Regional Chief Imam and the Regional Security Council.
Today, all the 33 Municipal and District Chief Executives in the region will also sign the book of condolence, together with the Regional State Attorney, chairmen of the political parties in the region and all heads of departments.
Tomorrow, the book will be opened to the general public to pay their respect to the late former President.
