Muslim Ummah in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region has called on government and other authorities in the country not to entertain the prohibited acts of lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders (LGBTQ+) because their attached consequences will be curses to the nation.
The group of chiefs, Ulama, Imams, women and youth who provide Islamic teachings, counselling and community education on social issues and moral values, addressing a press conference at the Kumasi Central Mosque, noted that LGBTQI+ is a “HARAM”, and should not be given attention, regardless of its so-called benefits to the country.
According to them, Islam condemns the activities of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBTQ+) movement and their related acts at all levels, and therefore Muslims should frown on the act.
They also called on their fellow Muslims to obey the teachings of the Holy Quran and the Hadith and also desist from any act of LGBTQI+.
“We are boldly calling on any group or individual who wish to join LGBTQI+ to desist from it for the simple fact that all Muslims across the nation shall never take it lightly,” they added.
Doors opened
The Muslim leadership disclosed that it had opened its doors for all members of LGBTQI+ to come for proper counselling and rehabilitation in accordance with Islamic teachings.
They further entreated all Muslims to take part in the national immunization against the COVID-19 pandemic, which will be rolled out today.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had stated on Saturday, February 27, that the activities of LGBTQ+ would not be legalised under his tenure as President.
“I have said it before, and let me stress it again, that it will not be under the Presidency of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo that same-sex marriage will be legal,” he said.
