Prof. Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi addresses the TESCON conference
Prof. Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, a would-be contender in the NPP national chairmanship race, has entreated members of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) of the NPP in the Oti Region to play the role of communicators for the party.
He particularly wants them to propagate government policies, especially the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-Levy), to dispel the propaganda of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The NPP national chairman hopeful made the call at Dambai College of Education, in Oti Region, while addressing a TESCON conference.
Speaking at it’s the groups’ maiden Regional Conference, dubbed “Breaking the Eight; the role of TESCON”, Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi charged members to join the party’s campaign teams to explain government’s policies and programmes to Ghanaians in defusing NDC’s vicious propaganda in the constituencies.
According to him, that is important in supporting the party to stay united to enable it consolidate the gains it made into the next elections and beyond.
‘Breaking the 8’
He said the party is determined to retain power in 2024, and break the eight-year governance cycle, urging members to remain united in the fight to deflate NDC propaganda.
“Let’s bury our differences, and stop the NDC propaganda against the novel E-Levy tax regime because of the potential of the policy to bring on board everyone in contributing to national development through the E-Levy,” he said.
He added that unity within the party before, during and after the internal elections is crucial.
“All members should do all they can to appeal to feuding parties to reconcile. As an example of a youth group that has consistently demonstrated commitment to the party, members should educate youth in the party to emulate them,” he urged.
He observed that there is future for members of TESCON in the party, and urged them to be active in the scheme of things like other TESCON members in the past who are currently occupying national and ministerial positions.
The Oti Regional Minister, Joshua Gmayenaam Makubu, indicated that TESCON members, like any youth in the party, are free to support any aspirant of his or her choice in the upcoming internal elections at the constituency, regional and national levels.
Mr Makubu however admonished them against being used by anybody to commit acts that ultimately affect the unity and progress of the party.
“We need to come out of these elections as a unified force to execute the 2024 general elections if we are to break the eight,” he added.
