President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says the government of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), through its sound and pragmatic policies, has shown a clear understanding of how to put the country onto the path of progress and prosperity
“The New Patriotic Party has got the blueprint for the development of Ghana, and it is going to be concretized in Akufo-Addo’s second time as President of the Republic. That is the programme ahead of us and for our country,” he said.
The President said this yesterday during his tour of the Eastern Region, which took him to Aburi, Atimpoku, Odumase, Somanya and Koforidua.
He had earlier, on Sunday, visited Nkawkaw, Anyinam, Kwabeng, Osino, Begoro and Tafo.
Expectations met
The President pointed out that he and his government have so far honoured the promises made to Ghanaians in the lead up to the 2016 elections.
“For the four years I have led Ghana, I made some promises to you and since what I have done so far meets your expectations, then it means that I did not come here to lie to you. I never came to deceive you people of Ghana,” he said.
President Akufo-Addo appealed for four more years to continue with his development agenda for the country.
“The more years you spend on learning something, the more experienced you become at it. So, I know that by the grace of God, if the second term is realised, what lies ahead of us would far more exceed a hundred per cent of what we have done,” he said.
President Akufo-Addo said in order to make “Four More for Nana” a reality in government, he will need a solid team who would be in Parliament to help in facilitating the passage of the necessary laws to help him govern.
No ‘skirt and blouse’
At Tafo, in the Abuakwa North constituency, President Akufo-Addo urged all members of the NPP not to entertain the calls being made in certain quarters to vote ‘skirt and blouse’.
“No true NPP member can vote skirt and blouse. We are voting for Nana Akufo-Addo and Hajia Kande. We don’t need any skirt and blouse voting here. While we are at it, we should remember and honour our late MP, J.B. Danquah-Adu. I came this evening to remind you that in 2016, I told you to vote for me ‘boom boom’. Now I am asking you to vote for me Boom! Boom! Boom!” the President added.
Free SHS critics ‘shamed’
Talking about the recent released results by WAEC, during a meeting with party faithful and traditional rulers at Aburi, President Akufo-Addo applauded the first batch of beneficiaries of the Free Senior High School policy for their excellent showing in the 2020 West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
“I am reliably informed that the WASSCE results of Aburi Girls Senior High School, and, indeed, of all 2020 SHS graduates, was extremely impressive. Those who claimed that the policy was not achievable must be very ashamed now. I will shelve that conversation for now so we deal with it another day,” he said.
“However, I wish to congratulate all the students for their brilliant performance in WASSCE examinations,” President Akufo-Addo said.
Analysis
Indeed, the 2020 results of the WASSCE candidates is the only year in the past six years that more than 50 per cent of the candidates who sat the examination obtained A1-C6 in all core subjects.
Further analysis of the 2020 results shows that performances in Mathematics and English Language were the highest, recording 65.71 and 57.34 percent, respectively. Social Studies and Integrated Science also recorded 64.31 and 52.53 per cent respectively.
The data also show that about 60 per cent of the 342,500 candidates who wrote the WASSCE, representing over 200,000, scored between A1 and C6 in their best six subjects, including English and Mathematics, which qualify them for tertiary education.
