With the country going to the polls exactly a week from today, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appealed to all eligible voters in the country to turn out in their numbers and vote massively for him and the New Patriotic Party to ensure an emphatic victory.
According to him, the numerous policies and programmes implemented by his government in the past four years have resulted in the enhancement of the living standards of Ghanaians.
The President made the appeal during a day’s tour of the Western Region yesterday. The tour took him to Sekondi, Kwesimintsim, Mpohor, Agona Nkwanta, Tarkwa, Bogoso and Akropong, where he indicated that the NPP is ready to do more with another four years.
Don’t be left out
The President added that “everyone who has registered and is in possession of a voter ID card should not sit at home, and assume that ‘Nana has already won, so I won’t vote’. If you haven’t voted, Nana hasn’t won.”
“So everyone should leave their homes on 7th December, go to your respective polling stations and vote massively for Nana and the NPP. That is what will give us a decisive victory we are after,” he added.
With the NPP in control of 169 seats in Parliament, President Akufo-Addo told residents of the Western Region of the importance of maintaining a majority of seats in Parliament.
He explained that a majority of seats in Parliament is what will strengthen his hand in government and pave the way for the implementation of policies and programmes that will help move Ghana onto the path of progress and prosperity.
Development blueprint
At Tarkwa, the President told the electorate that the NPP has the blueprint for the development of Ghana, adding that “the foundation for that development has been laid in Akufo-Addo’s first term as President.”
“In the next term, we will be constructing the house of more prosperity, of more progress and of more development for our nation,” he stressed.
According to President Akufo-Addo, his first term of office has been used to create a solid foundation for the economy, as well as the implementation of policies and programmes which have helped to put the country on a strong footing.
He explained that policies such as the Free Senior High School policy, which has increased enrolment at the senior high school level, Planting for Food and Jobs, which has transformed Ghana into a net exporter of food, and the 1-District-1-Factory initiative, which is increasing the capacity of the nation to be self-reliant, have had positive impacts on the lives and livelihoods of Ghanaians.
No ‘skirt and blouse’
With a week to the holding of the presidential and parliamentary elections, the President stated that it will be the perfect opportunity “to show Mahama if we have short memories or not”.
He appealed to residents of Tarkwa-Nsuaem “not to vote any skirt and blouse”, adding that “no independent candidate can help Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency. I will not work with any independent candidate. I will work with NPP MPs in my next government.”
He added: “I am appealing to you, I am coming to work with Mireku Duker in Parliament. He has not let you down since you sent him to Parliament. He is working hard there, and is one of the highly respected MPs in the House.”
Having won the 2016 election by a margin of nearly one million votes, the President urged the electorate to repose in him their confidence, and give him an even larger margin of victory on December 7.
