The Member of Parliament (MP) for Nsawam-Adoagyiri in the Eastern Region, Frank Annor-Dompreh, has donated 10 pieces of pulse oximeters gadgets to Nsawam Government Hospital.
The machines, according to the MP, cost $20,000. They are used for checking heartbeat, breathing rate, temperature, blood pressure and the level of oxygen within the blood of a patient.
Mr Dompreh noted that the gadgets would help to measure the oxygen saturation of patients, which is critical, especially in this time of Covid-19.
Commitment
The MP expressed his commitment to improving health care delivery in the area. He stated that the hospital is a facility that serves all the people in and around Nsawam-Adoagyiri, adding that this puts enormous pressure on the staff and management of the hospital.
He has thus appealed to individuals and other stakeholders to go to the aid of the hospital.
Receiving the devices, Dr Kwabena Awuku, the Medical Superintendent of the hospital, thanked the MP for his timely intervention. He said the hospital had been in dire need of some basic health equipment, adding that the novel coronavirus had further exposed the weaknesses of the facility.
He also thanked the MP for his constant support for the facility.
He listed some important donations made by the MP, which include some GHC 50,000 down payment made to facilitate the construction of a maternity block. Others include ongoing negotiations with the Chinese Embassy to fully construct the maternity ward and a modern entrance for the hospital.
