The Ashanti Regional New Patriotic Party (NPP) has launched its campaign with a charge on party members to, as a matter of urgency, close their ranks, as it aims at securing 85% of Ashanti votes for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
The occasion was also used to inaugurate the Ashanti Regional Campaign Working Committee and Women’s Conference. The was held under the theme “Consolidating The Unity in Ashanti to Break The 8.”
Speaking at the launch over the weekend in Kumasi, the General Secretary of the party, Justin Frimpong Kodua, charged women to buckle down, and campaign for the NPP, ahead of December 7, 2024.
To him, women will continue to play leading roles in the party’s quest to retain political power. He assured that the party was ready to give the needed support to the women’s wing to effectively work for the party.
Justin Kodua charged the party to eschew complacency, and work hard for the NPP to retain power in the upcoming general elections, adding that amid the economic challenges, the NPP’s track records were unmatched and are better than the opposition NDC.
“Those who are disappointed should be talked to. We must let them know that, if anything, the government is a listening one. Hardship is being experienced across the globe, even in America and the United Kingdom, ” he added.
Votes and women
Delivering the opening address, Bernard Antwi Bosiako, NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman, charged his party members to be united for the task ahead.
He stressed the need for a massive improvement in NPP votes in all 37 constituencies in the Ashanti Region.
For her part, the Chairperson of the Ashanti Regional Planning Committee, Patricia Appiagyei, explained that the involvement of women in the campaign symbolised the role of women.
Sharing her experience as a chairperson for the campaign team, Madam Appiagyei called for unity to retain power, adding that the Ashanti Region is the base of the party, and without the region, it would be difficult for NPP to win an election in Ghana.
She implored the NPP members to forgive each other for a united front saying, “what is sinful to you might not be the same to someone. Let us close our ranks and sell Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Matthew Opoku Prempeh.”
In an admonition to the women, the National Women’s Organiser, Kate Gyamfua, noted that women play a pivotal role in driving home the message of the NPP owing to their marketing skills.
Again, she urged the women to sell the good works of the government to Ghanaians. “They must know that NPP are the originators of FSHS, and let Ghanaians know that the NDC never introduced FSHS. No party can develop Ghana than NPP. Let us do away with bottlenecks and campaign for the party,” she emphasised.
