Mercy Adu Gyamfi, a former Member of Parliament for Akwatia, has endorsed Ernest Kumi, the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the Akwatia constituency in the Eastern Region.
Madam Adu Gyamfi, who is popularly known as Ama Sey, lost her bid to contest on the NPP ticket in 2020.
She lost to Ernest Kumi in the internal election after defeating Baba Jamal in the 2016 general election.
Endorsement
Her loss to Mr. Kumi in 2020 left cracks in the party, with her supporters urging her to contest the general election as an independent candidate.
These cracks contributed significantly to the NPP’s defeat in the 2020 general election to the NDC’s parliamentary candidate, even though President Akufo-Addo won handsomely.
Ama Sey, who lost to Mr. Kumi again in the party’s parliamentary primaries last year, has demonstrated her commitment to the party’s cause by putting aside their differences.
She has urged the people of Akwatia to vote for both Dr. Bawumia and Ernest Kumi, emphasising the importance of presenting a united front.
This significant gesture occurred during Vice- President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign visit to the area.
