The National Organiser of the governing NPP, Sammi Awuku, has said that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been accountable to Ghanaians, by fulfilling many of the promises he made ahead of the 2016 general elections.
“Today, because of Nana Akufo-Addo, parents are able to sleep under the Free SHS because their wards attend school for free.
“Secondly, because of Nana Akufo-Addo, since this virus (Covid-19) came, we get free water. Today, our wards and siblings in teacher training and nursing training get allawa,” Mr Awuku said.
Fair share
Mr Awuku, who was speaking in the Western Region, as part of his nationwide campaign tour, added that the region has also had its fair share of the President Akufo-Addo’s ‘good leadership’.
The Western Region tour took the NPP National Organiser to the Wassa East, Shama, Mpohor, Kwesimintim, Jomoro, Ellembelle, Evalue Ajomoro Gwira, Prestea Huni Valley, Amenfi West and the Amenfi East constituencies.
“Back home, today our siblings in cocoa farming get enough fertiliser. When you take Planting for Food and Jobs, we are able to plant food crops and able to export some. All of these are due to the benefit we get from voting for a good government,” he said.
Mr Awuku added that by the President’s decision to establish an oil hub in the region, about 780,000 jobs are going to be created for people in the region.
He therefore called on the populace not to “exchange their colour TV for black white”.
Community mining
Mr Awuku added that the NPP government knows that residents in about seven, out of the seventeen constituencies in the region, depend largely on mining for their survival, and assured them that the government has no plans to deny them of their livelihood.
He said while mining is good, it must be regulated to ensure that beneficiaries do not harm the environment, adding that the community mining programme put together by the government is to regulate the sector.
He called on the residents not to pay heed to any promise the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress, John Mahama, gives regarding mining since he will not fulfil them.
He reminded the people of similar promises made by Mr Mahama ahead of the 2012 general election which he could not implement throughout his four years in government.
No ‘skirt and blouse’
Meanwhile, Mr Awuku has asked residents of the Western Region not to forget NPP parliamentary candidates in the December 7 general election.
He urged supporters of the party to also discard any idea of voting ‘skirt and blouse’, saying President Nana Akufo-Addo will need absolute majority in Parliament to implement his life-changing policies and programmes.
