The Bono Regional Minister, Justina Owusu Banahene, has expressed grave concern about reports of some residents of Sunyani who have made it their habit of illegally using chippings meant for the ongoing inner-city road construction projects in the regional capital for their personal use.
This practice, she explained, had adversely affected the speedy completion of the 29-kilometre Sunyani inner city road project being executed by the Sino-hydro Corporation of the People’s Republic of China.
She is therefore calling on all those engaged in this ungodly and illegal act to immediately put a stop to it for the sake of the entire community.
This was contained in a press release issued by the Bono Regional Coordinating Council and signed by the minister in response to rampant reports of some residents who seem to have made it their habit of stealing chippings meant for road construction for their personal building projects.
Possible arrests
This is said to have slowed down the pace of work in the Sunyani municipality while most residents also keep complaining about the dusty nature of most of the roads under construction.
The Bono Regional Minister pointed out the RCC if the situation persists, the RCC may be compelled to dispatch men in town to arrest anyone found with chippings in and around Sunyani for interrogation and possible prosecution.
In the meantime, the RCC, according the minister, will be conducting random checks at various building construction sites to ascertain the source of the chipping being used by the owners of such projects.
The minister therefore appealed to the public to report any persons seen or suspected to be stealing any of the road construction chippings to the Police for immediate action to be taken.
