The New Patriotic Party has a long history, and I firmly believe that it would be quite easy to mend the party’s divisions, particularly following the devastating electoral loss in 2024, in order to achieve a resounding triumph in 2028.
As a supporter of free expression, I think that calm heads will win out in the future despite the recent disturbances, name-calling, and blame-game that are all a part of what any political party experiences after losing.
The most crucial issue the party should focus on right now is how to get everyone on board, especially those who are willing to assist in its reconstruction. The idea that people are being urged to return to the party they previously claimed to love should not be fostered.
Ocquaye report
Disregard all of the false information and fabricated claims about the Mike Ocquaye report that have been circulating on Facebook and other social media platforms.
I think the report’s recommendations will be strictly followed after it is officially released and made public.
Hearing certain party leaders, such as former Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, characterize the report as a guide for bolstering the party’s internal democracy and setting it up for future electoral successes is even more encouraging.
If nothing else, the report should provide a thorough and candid evaluation of the party’s advantages and disadvantages, which would much help to revitalize the party and improve its prospects.
The way the NPP permitted internal strife to contribute to its defeat is one topic I would want to see adequately addressed in the report. The only obstacle to the success of the NPP is internal division.
Even if we disagree with certain parts of the report, I implore everyone to find an appropriate and better way to express our resentment than using the ‘buga buga’ way. Boldly putting the report’s recommendations into practice will help us regain the trust of Ghanaians.
Presidential candidates
The way that Ernest Owusu Bempah, the former Head of Corporate Communications at Ghana Gas, set up Dr. Bawumia on his Facebook wall to mock him because he (Owusu Bempah) believes a former Assin Central MP should be the next NPP presidential candidate infuriated me last week.
We must be measured in how we approach this, even though we all have our favorite candidates and would like them to be the party’s presidential nominees. Before we lose concentration, we need to concentrate on the most crucial items.
We must be vigilant and get the party’s ranks up and running, even if it is imperative that we reorganize the party, particularly the base. While I believe it would have been beneficial for party executives to ask for the return of individuals like Alan Kyerematen, I also believe that we shouldn’t overspend on this exercise.
According to what I recall, Alan decided to step down and was not suspended like the rest including Kwabena Agyapong and Afoko.
Stalwarts of the NPP like former President John Agyekum Kufuor, we were told, all attempted to speak with Mr Kyerematen to change his mind, but it was unsuccessful, therefore we must move forward. The strength of a united NPP is essential for victory in 2028. I could not agree more with the former NPP Vice-Presidential candidate, Matthew Opoku Prempeh, who makes the point that a fragmented party, no matter how strong its flagbearer, stands no chance of winning elections.
Thank You Tour not endorsement
I find it extremely concerning that many people have characterized Dr. Bawumia’s current Thank You Tour as an endorsement.
Before Dr. Bawumia began this tour, a clear statement was released, and the fact that people are interpreting it in different ways demonstrates their intentions.
Prior to the tour, the release made it clear that the release, which was approved by the National Council, was intended to express the party’s genuine gratitude for the support it received in the 2024 elections, from the presidential candidate to the executives and campaign team to the supporters and Ghana as a whole.
How is this hard for people to understand if not for other intentions well known to them.
Kennedy Agyapong deserves praise for the kind assistance he provided to the party in resolving worker arrears at the party headquarters. It is also thought that Dr. Bawumia did the same thing in the past.
I implore anyone in the NPP who wants to be president to summon their followers so the party can concentrate on the side issues that are aimed at winning in 2028.
