Ranking Member of the Defence and Interior Committee and Member of Parliament for Assin South, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has been vindicated by the Cape Coast High Court after a decisive legal victory against two individuals who defamed him earlier this year.
In a judgment delivered on Monday, April 28, 2025, the court ruled in favour of Rev. Fordjour, awarding him substantial damages and bringing an end to months of public vilification. The court found that Stephen Cobbah, popularly known as Adepa, and Yaw Korankye, known as Ampong, had made defamatory statements against the MP on the “Assinman Politics Gh.” WhatsApp platform in March 2024.
Rev. Fordjour initiated the legal action in April 2024, seeking among other reliefs a declaration that the statements were defamatory, damages of GHS 1 million, an injunction to prevent further defamatory publications, and a public apology and retraction.
After months of proceedings, the Cape Coast High Court declared the statements made by the Defendants as defamatory. The court awarded GHS 700,000.00 in damages against them jointly and severally, with each also ordered to pay costs of GHS 20,000.00.
In addition to monetary compensation, the court issued a perpetual injunction restraining the Defendants from making any further defamatory statements about Rev. Fordjour.
The Defendants were also ordered to retract their defamatory remarks and render an unqualified apology to the Plaintiff in writing, to be published on the “Assinman Politics Gh.” WhatsApp platform and any other platforms where the defamatory content had been shared.
