Lawyer Daniel Kojo Aboagye, a former contestant of GBC’s What Do You Know quiz programme, emerged winner of the 2025 Veterans Homecoming and Quiz Contest held at the GBC Studio One in Accra on Sunday, September 21, 2025.
The event, which brought together past contestants of the long-running intellectual competition, was filled with nostalgia, camaraderie, and spirited displays of knowledge. For many participants, it was not just a contest but a reunion of minds shaped by one of Ghana’s most iconic educational programmes.
Speaking to the media after his victory, Mr. Aboagye described the experience as both emotional and refreshing. “It was very fulfilling seeing my colleagues again. Some of us have been away from the contest for almost nine years. I left in 2016, so coming together once more to do what we love best was truly refreshing,” he said.
Reflecting on his performance, he admitted that the contest was not without its tense moments. “During the first round, I fumbled on my major question about the age at which Nkrumah died. But after answering a few others correctly and picking some bonus points, I knew I could catch up in the second round. When we started round two, I managed to build momentum and finish strong,” he recounted.
Mr. Aboagye emphasized the significance of such events in preserving Ghana’s intellectual and cultural heritage. According to him, the What Do You Know platform is more than just a quiz; it is a “knowledge-propagating and educational exercise” that promotes patriotism and learning among Ghanaians, particularly the youth.
“This programme doesn’t just test knowledge; it nurtures it. It encourages people to read, to learn, and to think critically about history, current affairs, and national issues. In our own small way, we are helping the next generation—especially pupils in primary and secondary schools—appreciate knowledge and patriotism,” he noted.
He further called on corporate bodies, institutions, and individuals to support the GBC quiz show through sponsorship and collaboration. “We need sponsors to make What Do You Know more attractive and appealing, especially to the younger ones who will take our place in the future. This is something we need to plan carefully with the production team,” he appealed.
