Policy think tank Danquah Institute (DI) has commended the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo-led-government for its efforts and commitment to making Ghana a proactive participant in climate change mitigation and the promotion of a greener environment.
Reading a speech on behalf of the Executive Director, Dr Antoinette Tsiboe-Darko, a Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana and DI Fellow, Dr. Hayford Mensah Ayerakwa, lauded the government’s Green Ghana programme, describing it as instrumental in restoring Ghana’s depleted forest cover and making a valuable contribution to global climate change mitigation efforts.
Dr. Tsiboe-Darko praised the government during the Green Ghana Day event at South Labone Girls Technical High School in the Greater Accra Region, where staff members from DI participated in a tree planting and donation activity. The planted seedlings comprised various tree species such as mango, guava, pawpaw, coconut, and ornamental plants.

The donated items also included toiletries, sanitary pads, drinking water, toothpaste, and an undisclosed amount of cash.
Dr. Tsiboe-Darko extolled President Akufo-Addo for the success of the Green Ghana Project, highlighting that it not only contributes to mitigating climate change but also creates jobs and promotes sustainable economic growth.

She, therefore, called on the school authorities to nurture the trees to maturity to achieve the effect of downsizing this year’s Green Ghana target to 10 million seedlings.
She noted that the Institute has shown a strong commitment to actively engage its staff in the tree planting activities of the Green Ghana Initiative since its inception. This involvement is aimed at making a valuable contribution towards achieving the annual tree planting targets.
Afforestation
She noted that cities adorned with trees and flowers are among the most captivating in the world, hence, there is no denying the significance of tree planting in our present-day world, which faces escalating demands for industries, roads, houses, schools, and other developments that often necessitate the removal of trees and disruption of natural vegetation.
She entreated the students and staff to look after the trees planted with love and commitment. “Please remember the famous adage; when the last tree dies, the last man dies. We wish everyone in our dear nation an exciting and fulfilling Green Ghana Day. Let’s go planting. Let’s save our forest. Let’s stop the harmful effects of climate change! Let’s Green Ghana together,” she added.
