Andrews Kwame Perprem, NPP Belgium Branch Secretary hopeful
Mr. Andrews Kwame Perprem, Development Consultant, Political Analyst, Co-founder of the United Belgium for Bawumia (UBB) and Secretary of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP), Antwerp branch, has urged the party’s diaspora wings to take a strategic role in revitalising the NPP ahead of the 2028 general elections.
In an exclusive chat with the Daily Statesman, Mr. Perprem, who is also Belgium Branch Secretary hopeful, stressed that the NPP’s international branches, particularly in Europe, North America and other regions, are vital stakeholders who could provide not only financial support but also innovative ideas, policy guidance and global perspectives to strengthen the party domestically.
“The diaspora is a goldmine of expertise, experience and resources. If properly mobilised, they can help the NPP refine its policies, reconnect with citizens, and present a compelling vision that will win back the trust of Ghanaians,” he said.
Active participants
Mr. Perprem emphasised that diaspora involvement should go beyond fundraising, urging branches to actively participate in policy discussions, grassroots mobilisation and youth-focused initiatives. “The NPP’s success in 2028 will depend on unity, innovation, and a broad-based approach that leverages all our strengths – including the talent and commitment of our diaspora,” he added.
According to the NPP Antwerp secretary, the party must establish structured mechanisms to involve diaspora members in decision-making, particularly in shaping economic and social policies that resonate with voters at home. He believes their contributions can bridge knowledge gaps, introduce global best practices, and promote the party’s ideals of liberal democracy, property-owning democracy, and private sector development.
“The NPP cannot afford to neglect its international supporters. Their insights, resources, and networks are vital for rejuvenating the party and presenting a compelling agenda to the electorate,” the NPP Belgium branch secretary hopeful noted.
Ideological revival
He also called for an ideological revival as part of preparations for 2028. Mr. Perprem said the party must actively reconnect with its founding principles to regain the trust and confidence of Ghanaians.
“Over the years, the party has achieved significant milestones, but in some areas, it has strayed from the ideals that made it a beacon of hope for many Ghanaians. To reclaim the hearts of voters, we must return to our core values and remind the public of what the NPP truly stands for,” he stated.
He highlighted the importance of property-owning democracy in fostering inclusive economic growth and empowering citizens. Mr. Perprem also emphasised liberal democracy as central to individual freedoms, rule of law, and accountable governance, and urged the NPP to design policies that promote entrepreneurship, investment, and private sector growth.
“Reconnecting with our principles is not just about nostalgia; it is about crafting a forward-looking agenda that addresses the everyday concerns of Ghanaians while staying true to what the NPP represents,” he added.
Mr. Perprem believes that ideological clarity, combined with practical policy initiatives, will be decisive in regaining public confidence and positioning the party for victory in 2028.
