A member of the NPP National Communications Team, Lawrence Kwesi Botchway Jnr, has described Dr Eric Nkansah, the current Director in charge of Tertiary Education at the Ministry of Education, as “competent to deliver on his mandate”.
This comes on the back of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) rejecting the appointment of Dr Eric Nkansah as the new Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES).
The Association at a press briefing had stated that the new appointee was trained banker who had no background in teaching. The President of NAGRAT, Angel Carbonou, called on President Akufo-Addo to rescind the decision on the appointment of the new Director General of GES, stressing that, he was a banking officer and not a teacher.
Response
But speaking in an interview on Neat FM, Kwesi Botchway Jnr commended the new GES Director-General on his appointment. He further expressed conviction and confidence that Dr Eric Nkansah is the right man for the job.
“I believe that such a leadership position is one that requires someone with the managerial experience and leadership qualities. And Dr. Nkansah has it all… Because with GES, he is not only going to exercise directional roles to only teachers, you can look at the various sectors under GES…,” he indicated.
He has therefore called on NAGRAT to exercise some level of patience and give Dr. Nkansah benefit of the doubt to deliver on his new mandate.
He also reiterated that the new GES Director-General will bring his wide knowledge and expertise to bear on the Tertiary Education at the Ministry of Education in order to help the President and the government to achieve its education agenda for all.
Dr. Eric Nkansah holds a PhD in Financial Economics from the University of Zululand, South Africa (2015 – 2018), Master of Business Administration (Finance); KNUST Business School, Ghana (2008 – 2010); B. A (Hons) Economics; the University of Cape Coast, Ghana (2002 –2006).
Prior to his appointment, he was the Technical Advisor/Director in charge of Tertiary Education at the Ministry of Education.
