The Minister of Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has called on the newly inaugurated Governing Council of the Chartered Institute of Human Resource Management (CIHRM) to champion the rights and welfare of women in Ghana’s workforce, particularly young ladies who face daily harassment and discrimination in their places of employment.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony in Accra, the Minister urged the Council to take deliberate steps in addressing workplace harassment, especially cases that go unreported due to fear, stigma, or lack of institutional support.
He described the issue as a growing concern that requires immediate policy attention and bold advocacy from key professional bodies like CIHRM.
“Too many young women are silently enduring harassment and exploitation at work. We must end the era where women are taken advantage of in their search for decent employment due to desperation,” the Minister stated.
Hon. Iddrisu emphasised the role of CIHRM in setting professional standards, advising government and private institutions, and leading reforms that protect workers—especially the vulnerable—from abuse and unfair treatment. He encouraged the Council to work closely with relevant stakeholders to develop and enforce clear HR policies that create safe, respectful, and empowering work environments for all.
The newly inaugurated Council is expected to provide strategic oversight and policy direction for the Institute as it continues to shape Ghana’s human resource management landscape.
