A section of New Patriotic Party (NPP) executives in Esikado- Ketan constituency of Western Region has descended heavily on Anna Horma Akasie Miezah, the party’s regional treasurer, for allegedly lying about outcome of their 2020 parliamentary victory in a leaked audio recording.
The angry NPP executives maintain that the contents of the leaked audio is nothing but blatant lies fabricated by Horma to impress delegates, following her decision to contest the constituency’s primaries against Charles Bissue and Jovaina Osei Tutu Agyemang.
The group has therefore urged all Ghanaians to treat the propaganda and alleged lies with all the contempt they deserve.
Lies
Horma, who doubles as Deputy Director-General of National Lotteries Authority, was said to have spewed the supposed lies at separate meetings with polling station and electoral area co-ordinators in the constituency from December 27 to January 2 this year.
She was captured on the tape allegedly bragging about her involvement in manipulating the 2020 Esikado-Ketan parliamentary result to ensure that Joe Ghartey, the incumbent NPP MP, retained his seat.
According to her, she is an expert in doctoring electoral results in favour of NPP, and should be endorsed by delegates to replace Joe Ghartey who has declared his intention to contest the flagbearership race.
The constituency executives, however, insist there was no element of manipulation, and have consequently dismissed Horma’s claim as unfounded and infantile’.
They said it constituted a serious electoral offence for which she could be easily prosecuted at any court of law.
In an interview with the Daily Statesman, the fuming party executives lambasted her for painting a negative picture of the NPP in the eyes of Ghanaians.
Vindication
Additionally, they said by spewing that supposed lie, Horma had vindicated NDC’s assertion that the election was actually won by their candidate, Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah, and not Joe Ghartey.
The executives contended that the annoying aspect of the supposed lie is that she was assigned to monitor the Shama constituency election on the day of the election, and never came to Esikado-Ketan, wondering how she could stab her own party on the back just to win the primaries.
They stressed that Mr Ghartey retained his seat genuinely with collated pink sheets as evidence.
The 2020 Esikado-Ketan constituency parliamentary result generated some controversies, with NDC’s Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah insisting “it was rigged in favour of the incumbent”, and proceeded to the court to challenge it.
She even accused Kwabena Okyere Darko- Mensah, the Western Regional Minister and Member of Parliament for Takoradi, of being part of the rigging machinery.
The NDC parliamentary candidate, however, ordered her lawyer to discontinue the case during the latter part of 2022, with some costs awarded against her for wasting the court’s time. 222222222
