Verifiable facts on the history of Awutu Senya West Constituency development show that the Director of Communications at the Presidency, Mr. Eugene Arhin, has distinguished himself regarding the development of the area.
Admittedly, Mr. Arhin is not the only person who has contributed to the development of the constituency. Nonetheless, among all the indigenes who have served the community in diverse capacities, the Jubilee House communications boss and New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the area stands tall.
After solidifying himself in the kitchen cabinet of the Akufo-Addo government, Mr. Arhin has since given unimaginable attention to the development of Awutu Senya West Constituency. This has, in turn, opened the eyes of the people of the area to what cabinet ministers and inner circle members of a government with goodwill can do for their communities.
Thus, until he showed up in the constituency, the constituents never knew that cabinet ministers and core members of a government could do so much to advance the welfare of their people. This stems from the fact that Awutu Senya West Constituency had a cabinet minister under the former Presidents John Evans Atta Mills’ and John Mahama’s governments in the person of Ms. Hanna Serwaa Tetteh.
Dev’t
However, the constituency did not experience the kind of development Mr. Arhin has brought into the area as President Akufo-Addo’s Communications Director. With Ms. Hanna Serwaa Tetteh as a cabinet Minister and Member of Parliament for the area, the major road networks of the area were not fixed.
Thus, the Bawjiase-Obrachire-Sweduro Road, which was in its worst state during Mr. Mahama’s tenure, was left unattended. The same applies to the Ofaakor-Bawjiase Road. It had to take Mr. Arhin to leverage his direct working relationship with the President as the latter’s communications director to get the construction of these roads and the Akoti-Junction-Senya Beraku one started.
The President himself is on record to have confirmed this during one of his working visits to the constituency when he said, “Eugene Arhin does not give me breathing space because of his people.” He made this remark to show how Mr. Arhin pressured him to instruct the immediate past Roads Minister, Hon. Amoako Atta, to start these projects.
It is, therefore, a non-starter for the sitting Member of Parliament (MP), Hon. (Mrs.) Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui, to try to reap where she has not sown just because the minister was civil in responding to her questions in Parliament on these road projects.
Among the things he has also lobbied aside from these major road projects are the revival of the stalled Bawjiase Astro Turf project and the construction of a new one at Senya Beraku by the Ghana National Petroleum Council (GNPC).
Beyond lobbying for these major roads for the constituency, the communications director has, through his Foundation, the Eugene Arhin Foundation, executed a number of projects in his bid to impact the lives of the constituents. Classroom blocks have been built and damaged ones repaired! Mechanized boreholes have been dug for Senior High Schools (SHS)!
So has he built a library and ICT centre and stocked it with books and computers! Hundreds of school desks have been distributed to selected schools across the constituency.
Works
Mentioned here are just a few of the things Mr. Arhin has done to announce how he intends to promote quality education in the constituency. Mr. Arhin’s contribution to the development of Awutu Senya West Constituency is not only limited to the education sector. The security of the people has also been his concern.
Owing to this fact, he has solicited funds through his Foundation to provide the Senya District Police Command with office accommodation that houses the District Police Commander, the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Children Friendly Office, and District Orderly Room.
This is fully furnished office accommodation with washrooms and other ancillary facilities. All this communicates one thing! Mr. Arhin, who is also the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Awutu Senya West Constituency, has laid a strong foundation for the development of the area.
Mr. Arhin’s strict adherence to the principle of “Ubuntu,” thus, “Humanity to others,” has also influenced his attitude towards the joblessness of the youth in the constituency. Guided by the “I am what I am because we are,” Mr. Arhin has embarked upon the project of empowering the youth of Awutu Senya West Constituency.
To this end, he has lobbied for permanent public sector jobs for thousands of youth who had lived in abject poverty and untold hardships for years. Amazed by his commitment to getting the youth of the area jobs, he was once asked why he was so passionate about liberating the youth from the shackles of unemployment.
That was when the Jubilee House Communication boss disclosed that his actions and decisions are guided by the Ubuntu principle. The curiosity to fathom why Mr. Arhin would go all out to get the youth jobs was actually triggered by his phenomenal achievement of working out 25 teaching appointments with the Ghana Education Service (GES) for some Awutu Senya West youth at a goal.
According to Mr. Arhin, every community is a reflection of its people. Thus, a community whose people are poor will definitely suffer poor development because the people of a community are largely responsible for its progress.
So, in the mind of the NPP Parliamentary Candidate, he is empowering the youth today to take up the responsibility of developing the area from him and a few others when they retire.
The unmatched commitment of Mr. Arhin to the development of Awutu Senya West, as expressed in the foundation he has laid and continues to lay, shows that given the chance, the selfless young politician would put the constituency on the pedestal with regard to the development area.
