Ghana’s ratings in the estimation of the global business community, development agencies, international financial institutions and human rights watchers, among others, have been positive. That has been a refreshing news for patriotic Ghanaians who mean well for the nation.
In matters of good governance and political tolerance as well as transparency and credibility, Ghana has kept a decent sheet since the induction of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo into office in January 2017 as President.
This is in spite of the orchestrated attempts by certain shameless elements in the opposition NDC who, having been confronted with the fact that the party is a sinking ship that has nothing to offer Ghanaians, are using all dubious and devious means to upstage the government.
Isn’t it interesting that after the election petition, those offending, ugly noises from the leadership of the NDC about Justices having an agenda to ditch the party continue to assail our national space?
Real intentions
But that is simply a confirmation of the intention of the leadership to circumvent law and commonsense to win power, when those same lame arguments were lost on the platform that matters.
Isn’t it interesting, too, that at the forefront of this inordinate propaganda are desperate, dubious characters, including those who the World Bank in the late 90s wanted prosecuted for misappropriating over GHC400 billion in madcap, fruitless oil exploration schemes under the nose of helpless President Jerry John Rawlings.
But it also becomes more interesting to see that these were faces that hid behind Jerry Rawlings to make money during the PNDC administration. Unfortunately, for them, when it mattered most, they ran away from the hungry cameras.
Enough to inspire
Thankfully, while the ugly noises pervade our sacred space, the civilised world continue to commend Ghana for leading Africa and most parts of the world in fighting the pandemic that has kept so many nations frozen.
We were among the first in tracing, testing and treating COVID-19, and rose to become a leading investment destination.
Better still, we became one of the fastest-growing economies, and are now touted a leading nation in Africa and the world in terms of the peace.
‘Sour grapes’ politicians
For those who had proved to the world that being in government is being profligate and crooked, and under whose administration oil rickety rigs could be bought with millions of dollars and ferried out still dysfunctional to nowhere, the only option is concoct stories and lie, and distract Ghanaians from the real issues.
Why does the NDC keep shifting the goalposts? Why didn’t some of these goons speak when their sins were still fresh in the independent newspapers?
