In an audacious bid to rewrite the global travel narrative for African passport holders, Ghanaian adventurer and content creator, Albert Anum, has set out to become the first Ghanaian to visit every country in the world, armed solely with a Ghanaian passport, one of the world’s least powerful.
Currently based in Canada, Anum has officially launched what many describe as the most ambitious travel challenge ever attempted by a Ghanaian citizen: to journey through all 197 countries across the globe without the convenience of dual citizenship or privileged travel documents.
Driven by a potent blend of national pride, determination, and global curiosity, Anum is on a mission to confront and document the stark realities African travellers face. His goal is not only to make history, but to inspire a generation of Ghanaians and Africans to believe in their potential despite the barriers that come with holding a passport ranked 72nd globally by the Henley Passport Index.
“I want to prove to the world and to young Ghanaians that a passport should never define your potential. I’m doing this to inspire others and challenge the odds stacked against African travellers,” Anum said in an exclusive interview.
Bold Journey Against the Odds
With visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to only about 40 countries, the Ghanaian passport presents a significant hurdle to world travel. Unlike citizens from Japan, Germany, or the United States, who enjoy far greater global mobility, Ghanaians often face lengthy visa application processes, costly rejections, and stringent travel restrictions.
For Anum, this journey is not merely about traversing continents; it is about challenging global inequality, documenting systemic bias, and amplifying underrepresented stories.
“There are amazing stories waiting to be told from a Ghanaian point of view, how we apply for visas, how we’re treated at borders, and how we thrive in places the world doesn’t expect us to be. I want to tell those stories, country by country,” he added.
Storytelling on a Global Stage
Anum is no stranger to storytelling. Through his popular YouTube channel, Ghanaian Traveller, and the viral street interview series The Anum Studios, he has built a platform that captures raw, authentic narratives from people around the world.
His new travel series will spotlight the challenges of traveling with a Ghanaian passport, cultural encounters with locals across continents, Visa application triumphs and setbacks, resilience stories from life on the road and travel advice tailored for African adventurers
Every destination visited will serve not only as a geographical achievement, but as a window into global systems, as seen through the lens of a Ghanaian traveller determined to defy the odds.
National Support
To bring this monumental vision to life, Anum is rallying corporate sponsors, government agencies, tourism boards, and Ghanaians in the diaspora to join the mission.
He is also launching a GoFundMe campaign and seeking brand partnerships with organizations that share his vision of travel equity and global inclusion.
“This is more than my dream, it’s Ghana’s journey to the world stage,” Anum said passionately. “I want to carry our flag everywhere, from the streets of Tokyo to the hills of Peru. With the right support, this can be a source of pride for the entire nation.”
