The Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central, Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe, has rolled out a far-reaching teacher support intervention that is already making a significant impact across basic schools in the constituency, benefiting thousands of pupils and dozens of teachers in underserved communities.
The initiative, widely known as the Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe Teacher Initiative, is currently supporting thirty-nine public basic schools across the district, with a combined pupil population of 8,829 and a total of 137 teachers directly benefiting from the programme. Through this intervention, a monthly financial support package amounting to GHS84,240 is being disbursed to participating schools to supplement teacher welfare and sustain teaching and learning activities. Over a seven-month period, the initiative is expected to inject a total of GHS589,680 into the basic education sector within the constituency.
Under the scheme, schools receive varying levels of financial support based on their enrolment size, staffing strength and specific local needs. The support covers allowances for teachers, including graduate teachers posted to deprived areas, as well as bulk support arrangements in some schools to help address unique operational challenges. Individual schools are receiving total support amounts ranging from GHS8,400 to as high as GHS22,400 over the seven-month period, ensuring that even the smallest and most remote schools are not left out.
Several basic schools across communities such as Agyedum, Obing, Chichiso, Akyemkrom, Nyamebekyere, Juabo, Anyinabrem, Agona Camp, Anakum, Amuni, Achichire and Asuminam are among the beneficiaries. In some instances, the initiative is also supporting university graduates who have taken up teaching roles in deprived areas, with monthly stipends aimed at retaining qualified personnel in rural schools that often struggle with staff shortages.
The Teacher Initiative is designed to complement government efforts by directly addressing challenges related to teacher motivation, retention and welfare, particularly in hard-to-reach communities. By easing the financial burden on teachers and schools, the programme seeks to create a more stable teaching environment and improve learning outcomes for pupils at the basic level.
Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe has consistently emphasized that education remains a cornerstone of sustainable development in Amenfi Central. The initiative, according to close associates, reflects her firm belief that investing in teachers is one of the most effective ways to secure the future of children in the constituency. Teachers play a central role in shaping character, nurturing talent and preparing young people for leadership, and supporting them, she maintains, is a direct investment in the district’s long-term progress.
Education stakeholders and community members have commended the intervention, describing it as timely and impactful, particularly in an era where rural schools continue to face resource and staffing constraints. Many believe the initiative will not only boost teacher morale but also improve school attendance, instructional quality and overall academic performance across the constithirty-ninel
With thirty-nine schools, 8,829 pupils and 137 teachers currently benefiting, the Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe Teacher Initiative stands as one of the most comprehensive education-focused interventions at the constituency level in Amenfi Central. Its sustained implementation is expected to leave a lasting imprint on basic education delivery and reinforce the MP’s commitment to human capital development in the district.
