Mr Kwesi Amoako-Atta, Roads and Highways Minister
The Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako Atta, says efforts are being made to pursue officials of his ministry who have allegedly set up road construction companies and have been awarding road contracts to themselves over the years.
Mr. Amoako-Atta told Accra-based Oman FM yesterday that he had been dealing with the issue in the last five years, adding that this canker is well known by many road contractors, both the retired and those still working.
He said it is inappropriate for staff of the very ministry responsible for awarding road contracts and paying contractors to be setting up road construction companies to compete with the contractors.
According to hm, his resolve to deal decisively with the issue has earned him disaffection from the perpetrators of this crime. He added that some people who are not happy with the fight, which is affecting them, are bent on bringing him down by writing anonymous letters and making unfounded allegations.
Mr. Amoako-Atta said that would however not deter him, but will rather embolden him to keep on with the fight.
