Prof. Freeman Joseph Danquah
A United Kingdom-based Ghanaian academic, Prof. Freeman Joseph Danquah, has lauded the Presidential Elections Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for its professionalism and transparent handling of the ongoing internal electoral process.
In a statement, Prof. Danquah, a lecturer in Human Resource Management and Human Resource Development at the School of Management, Law and Social Sciences of the University of Bradford, said “the Presidential Elections Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), under the distinguished leadership of the Rt. Hon. Joseph Osei Owusu (popularly known as Joe Wise), had so far demonstrated remarkable efficiency, professionalism, unbiasedness, and composure in the discharge of his mandate.”
He noted that the Committee’s “current performance clearly outperforms the previous exercises, demonstrating the valuable lessons learnt from past experiences.” According to him, from the outset, the Committee chaired by the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joe Wise, “ably supported by the Secretary, Mr. William Yamoah, and other members, has set a new benchmark in administrative diligence and operational transparency.”
“Their conduct thus far reflects a renewed commitment to ensuring a credible and seamless electoral process within the Party,” he stated. He added that the committee’s approach had redefined the standards of internal party management and confidence-building among party members.
Commendation
Commending some of the committee’s notable achievements, Prof. Danquah observed that it had ensured “swift and effective communication,” noting that the team had “promoted openness and accessibility throughout the process” by ensuring the prompt dissemination of information.
He also highlighted the committee’s “active stakeholder engagement,” explaining that “through timely press releases and public statements, it had provided consistent clarity on issues, effectively countering misinformation and dispelling false narratives.”
Touching on the recent balloting exercise, Prof. Danquah said it was conducted “smoothly and devoid of controversy, a refreshing improvement from the challenges witnessed in the past.” He added that “the general conduct of the Committee so far has reinforced trust and confidence in the Party’s internal democratic mechanisms.”
Exemplary start
Prof. Danquah further emphasised the importance of consistency and vigilance in upholding democratic principles. “It is important to underscore the need for continued adherence to the principles of fairness, transparency, integrity, and accountability,” he cautioned.
He urged the committee, particularly its chairman, “to remain firm and impartial in its decision-making, act courageously without fear or favour, and insulate the process from the influence of aspirant camps or any Machiavellian ‘invisible hands.’”
Prof. Danquah further stressed the need for transparency in the ongoing album validation process, noting that “on the critical matter of album validation, transparency must remain the guiding principle.” He advised that all procedures “comply strictly with the Party’s constitutional provisions and established standards to protect the credibility and legitimacy of the final electoral roll.”
According to him, “the Joe Wise–led Elections Committee has so far inspired confidence in the Party’s ability to manage its internal processes with professionalism and integrity.”
He indicated that if the current momentum was maintained, “the upcoming presidential primaries will not only strengthen the NPP’s internal democracy but also project the Party as a model of credible political organisation ready to recapture power.”
Prof. Danquah further described the committee’s progress as “excellent”, and urged the members to sustain the high standards they have set to ensure a successful and credible electoral process.
