The Assin Central lawmaker, Ken Ohene Agyapong, has emphasised the importance of unity within the governing Patriotic Party (NPP) as the country approaches the 2024 elections.
He made the call during a vibrant and festive atmosphere at Kumasi’s Jubilee Park, where NAPO was officially introduced as running mate for the upcoming December 2024 Presidential elections.
Acknowledging past tensions among Ashanti supporters, Mr Agyapong appealed to his followers to remain steadfast in their support for the party’s decisions, regardless of personal grievances.
“While some Ashanti people were upset with me during my recent visit to Kumasi, I reminded my supporters that loyalty to the party supersedes personal sentiments and so far as I’m not leaving the NPP, I will actively participate in the party’s activities,” he stressed.
He underscored that the alternative, referring to opposition NDC leader Mahama, would not serve the best interests of Ghana’s future generations. He urged NPP supporters in the Ashanti Region to unite and throw their support behind Vice President Dr. Bawumia.
He called upon party leaders to actively engage at the grassroots level, emphasising the need to bridge gaps and foster inclusivity within the party. Quoting biblical wisdom, Agyapong emphasized that true leadership requires servitude to the people. “If you want to be a leader, you must first be a servant of the people,” he stated.
He urged party leaders to connect directly with disgruntled member and prioritize reconciliation. The MP stressed the importance of door-to-door engagements to ensure harmony and solidarity among all NPP members.
